In today’s world there are many ways to obtain knowledge and it is often required instantly. The days of using encyclopedias and looking up information in books have somewhat passed us by. Although it is good for students to be able to do those things, it is much more necessary to be proficient in the use of technology. Being able to use technology is not just requirements in the work force, schools are implementing the use of technology at a very high rate. It seems like every year there are more and more schools that are going paperless and doing everything on some sort of electronic device. With the coming changes in the world it is more important now than ever before that children are able to use technology to perform daily tasks both at school and at home.
As educators we must be able to not only use technology but to be able to incorporate it into our lessons on the subjects that we are teaching. Even in the field of physical education it is important to be able to use certain devices and software programs in our lessons. As high school coaches we use iPADS to record practices and upload them to a software program that we use to get statistics on our players and use that information to critique their performance and then send it to them so they can improve. In the class room we can do the same things. Some students show tremendous improvement if they are able to see themselves doing tasks and the mistakes that they are making rather than just being told of their mistakes.
Technology has drastically improved the communication between teachers and parents. No longer do you have to wait for days or weeks to see your child’s grades or hear of his behavior issues. Almost all schools are using programs to keep parents up to date with grades, assignments, tests, quizzes and any other information that they may need concerning their child and the school that they attend. With all of the advances in technology and the wide range of uses for it, you are either keeping up or getting left behind!
